My Journey with AI: The Matthew Young Story
How I went from a curiosity about AI to building MovingLetters.ai — the growth platform for moving companies.

I didn't set out to build a tech company. Like a lot of founders, I stumbled into it by trying to solve a problem that wouldn't leave me alone.
A few years ago, I was deep in the moving industry, watching companies struggle with the same thing over and over: finding consistent leads. They'd throw money at Google Ads, try SEO, post on social media — and still have empty trucks on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
I kept thinking about timing. The best lead in the moving business isn't someone who Googles "movers near me." It's someone who just listed their home. They're definitely moving. The only question is who they'll hire.
The Handwritten Letter Idea
The concept was almost embarrassingly simple: send a personal, handwritten letter from a moving company CEO to every homeowner who just listed their home. Not a printed flyer. Not a mass-mailed postcard with stock photos. A real letter, in real ink, that looked like someone sat down and wrote it by hand.
The problem? You can't actually write thousands of letters by hand. And if you hire people to do it, the handwriting is inconsistent and the cost is astronomical.
That's where AI and robotics came in. I built a system that uses robotic arms with real ballpoint pens to write letters on actual paper. The handwriting is based on real human penmanship — with the natural variations and imperfections that make it look genuinely hand-penned. Every letter is unique.
The Results Were Immediate
The first moving company we worked with saw a 3% response rate on their handwritten letters. In direct mail, that's extraordinary. The industry average for printed mail hovers around 0.5-1%. But a hand-addressed envelope with a personal letter inside? People open those. People read those. And people call.
Word spread fast. More moving companies wanted in. I realized we weren't just sending letters — we were building a growth platform.
From Letters to a Platform
The letters needed data to work. So we built ListingPro — a real estate listing data platform that pulls new listings, pending sales, and homeowner contact information from across the country, every single day. That data became the engine behind everything.
Then movers wanted postcards too. And cold email outreach to realtors. And the platform kept growing.
Today, MovingLetters.ai serves hundreds of moving companies across the country. And we're just getting started.
What AI Taught Me
The biggest lesson? AI isn't magic. It's a tool. The magic is in understanding the problem deeply enough to know where technology can make a real difference. For us, that difference was simple: reach the right person, at the right time, with the right message. Everything else is execution.
If you're a mover reading this, I built this platform for you. Every feature, every product, every line of code exists to help you fill your trucks and grow your business. That's the mission. That's why we're here.
